Creator’s Block
Creator’s block is the bane of my existence. I’d definitely characterize myself as a creative. I enjoy drawing and sketching. I create textile art mostly using yarn. Dabble in painting from time to time. I love to write. But have recently come to realize thatI enjoy short form writing (hence making this very first Substack post). When I’m on a sprint I am laser focused. But the thing is… there always seems to be a pause, a creative block.
I can be super focused on a craft or idea for weeks at a time. But when its over its over. Jumping from one idea to the next. Until, I am burned out. And just over it all. I see other artists and creatives seem to maintain their consistency and I truly wonder how they do it. I have tried to make To Do Lists, create calendar deadlines, buy new supplies. When I’m not feeling it, I’m just not.
I think maybe its a gift and a curse. When I am in the mood and focused I create some of the best pieces ever. I even amaze myself. So maybe the solution is simply to let it flow naturally. Anything that adds pressure loses its spark to me. Art and creativity shouldn’t be heavy and feel like a burden. It should be freeing. The space for me to lay down my burdens.
